The 2010 FIFA World Cup is the 19th FIFA World Cup to be held in South Africa from June 11 to July 11, 2010 .

 

 

Spain became the eighth country to win the championship and the first European country to win the World Cup, hosted outside its continent​  because all previous World Cup held outside of Europe have been won by South American countries.


Organized cities and stadiums

In 2005, South Africa prepared 13 (temporary) stadiums for the World Cup, including Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban,Johannesburg, Kimberley, Klerksdorp, Nelspruit, Orkney, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria and Rustenburg But later reduced to only 10.

The 32 qualifiers were divided into eight groups, which formed the basis for the draw for the group stage participated groups include:

 

 

Australia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Algeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, South Africa (hosts), Honduras, Mexico, USA, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, New Zealand, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland.


Final match

 

 

The final took place on July 11, 2010 at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. Spain beat the Netherlands 1-0 two 15-minute overtime passes by Andrés Iniesta in the 116th minute. The victory gave Spain their first World Cup title. By becoming the eighth team to win the World Cup.
