Uruguay have just dropped their 27-man squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Both old school  strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani are also on the roster .

Federation 

In the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, they finished third in the standings and had a chance to play in Qatar. Through 18 matches, they have won eight, drawn four and lost six, just two behind Brazil and Argentina. It should be noted that this is the 14th time that Uruguay has played in the World Cup in its history.

History in world cup 

Uruguay is the first country to host the World Cup and win the title at home. That year, only 13 countries from three different federations compete as Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2 in final. 

In 1950, Uruguay won the World Cup again in Brazil after refusing to participate in the previous two events. Since that year at subsequent events, they finished fourth best in 1954, 1970 and 2010.
